Duties and Responsibilities
- Accountable to the pulmonary rehabilitation medical director, and the director of the cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and wellness program.
- Responsible for providing adequate staffing of the pulmonary rehabilitation department.
- Assumes total responsibility for the pulmonary rehabilitation department in the absence of the director.
- Keeps the director informed and up to date of department operations.
- Performs all duties of a rehabilitative respiratory therapist such as family/patient COPD education.
- Makes sure exercise sessions are safe and appropriate for patients.
- Monitors and adjusts patients' exercise prescriptions based on their responses.
- Recruits, interviews, evaluates, and schedules new patients.
- Teaches patients about the pulmonary rehabilitation program.
- Trains patients on inpatient smoking cessation and other bedside respiratory care.
- Administers the 6-minute walk test and nebulizer treatments.
- Reports patient progress to doctors and assists with quality improvement.
- Maintains compliance with regulatory standards and updates policies and procedures.
- Maintains patient safety by monitoring equipment and reporting issues.
- Serves as a role model for cardiovascular health.
Job Specifications
- Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- RN, RRT, Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Current state licensure or certification required.
- Two to three years of pulmonary rehabilitation experience preferred.
- Current CPR certification preferred.
- ACLS certification preferred.
- Skills:
- Functioning in a stressful environment.
- Staying updated with changing technology and regulations.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge of emergency equipment use.
- Basic EKG and arrhythmia interpretation.
