Pulmo Rehab Specialist

Responsibilities

• Staff (full time, part time, or consultant basis) respiratory care practitioners to implement the respiratory regimen and assist with pulmonary participant support.
• Contribute expertise as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to offer comprehensive treatment strategies.
• Communicate effectively with rehab team members about individual patient findings or concerns and about program improvement issues.
• Demonstrate willingness to strive toward proficiency in clinical competencies.
• Identify appropriate psycho-social adaptation to illness and/or the presence of psychopathology (e.g., depression, anger, excessive anxiety, etc.).
• Afford support and strategies to aid patient in successful therapeutic lifestyle changes (TLC).
• Utilize contemporary theories of health behavior change to help participants identify learning and lifestyle modification goals.
• Participate in the program's educational efforts, classes, and/or individual sessions.
• Assist in the development of individualized treatment plans with other staff members.
• Apply knowledge of exercise science to a population with pulmonary disease and other potential co-morbidities.
• Develop and adjust individual exercise prescriptions based on GXT, daily patient response in rehab, and physician recommendations.
• Supervise exercise sessions, monitoring participants for inappropriate responses to exercise.
• Measure oximetry, heart rate, and blood pressure.
• Assess participants pre, during, and post exercise, make appropriate referrals, and/or recommendations to the participant, other staff, and Medical Director.
• Observe telemetry responses, when indicated.
• Document initial and daily assessment data in participant records.
• Report any new, changing, and/or significant participant conditions to the physician supervising the program.
• Initiate ACLS measures and/or emergency care according to hospital policy.
• Collect, analyze, and report identified individual patient outcomes and program outcomes.
• Stay current in the field of pulmonary rehabilitation through journals, in-services, and conferences.
• Attend emergency drills and mock codes on a routine basis.
• Attend all scheduled staff meetings.

Qualifications

Must have a current license to practice as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of [State].

Experience in pulmonary rehabilitation is preferred but not required.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Knowledge of exercise science and pulmonary disease management.
