PUCT, Attorney (Attorney I - II), OPDM

About the role

The Office of Policy and Docket Management (OPDM) in the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) seeks an Attorney to support the Commissioners on contested cases and other regulatory matters involving Texas utility regulation. This position offers the opportunity to develop administrative law expertise while collaborating on complex matters that shape utility regulation across Texas.

Responsibilities

• Conduct legal research and analyze proposals for decision and Commission orders.
• Prepare written recommendations and support rulemaking and other regulatory proceedings.
• Advise Commissioners on legal issues related to administrative law, contested case proceedings, and utility regulation.
• Collaborate with experienced attorneys on complex matters that impact Texans.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited law school with LLB or JD degree and licensed with the State Bar of Texas.
• Eligible to practice law in Texas.
• Minimum of two (2) years legal work experience as a licensed attorney (for Attorney II).

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in math, finance, accounting, or engineering, or in English.
• Experience conducting legal research, analyzing complex legal issues, and preparing written legal analyses, memoranda, or recommendations.

Pay

Salary commensurate with qualifications, starting at $80,004.00 for Attorney I and $88,200.00 for Attorney II, with a maximum salary of $89,250.00 for Attorney I and $90,744.00 for Attorney II.

Schedule

The PUCT operates on a standard work schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. New hires are required to complete a waiting period before becoming eligible to telecommute.
