About the role

Join the City of Hampton's Public Works – Wastewater Division as a Technician Trainee. Gain hands-on experience supporting the inflow and infiltration program.

Responsibilities

  • Work under close supervision to learn a wide range of technical skills related to wastewater infrastructure operations, inspection, and maintenance.
  • Support the operation and maintenance of the City's wastewater infrastructure.
  • Follow established procedures to perform tasks such as inspections, repairs, and cleaning of wastewater systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three (3) months of full-time equivalent experience in maintenance and repair of a variety of mechanical equipment or a closely related experience.
  • Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
  • Must possess and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class B with an N-endorsement (Tanker Vehicle) within 180 days of employment.
  • This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions, night or day, including extreme heat or cold, and under work conditions that may be disagreeable and potentially dangerous.
  • Must be willing to work beyond a standard 40 hour work week to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
