Public Service Worker I - Sanitation Department (Express)

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Mows and trim lawns and brush
• Picks-up and disposes of trash and brush
• Drives vehicles and operates light equipment
• Maintains city vehicles
• Repairs streets, manholes, street signs, and water and sewer lines
• Installs water meters and dig meter boxes
• Serves airport equipment and grounds
• Affords assistance with maintenance of Memorial Hall as needed
• Performs additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Ability to perform heavy manual labor
• Some knowledge of maintenance of public grounds and facilities
• Ability to operate trucks and light equipment
• Knowledge of operation and maintenance of trucks, light equipment and lawn care tools
• Ability to listen to, follow and communicate oral and written instructions
• Ability to work well with a small team

Education and Experience

• Completion of high school or GED required
• One year of experience as a laborer or maintenance worker preferred

Special Requirements

• A current Kansas drivers license
• Must be available to work nights, overtime, and weekends

Physical Requirements

• Intense physical effort is required
• Individual must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, grasp, speak, and listen for extended periods of time
• Frequent exposure to unpleasant elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, chemicals, etc.

SALARY RANGE

The starting salary for this position is $14.00 per hour.*

\*Eligible for hire with the City after 720 hours with Express.
