Job Description St. Charles Health System is hiring a Public Safety Officer in Bend, Oregon. This part-time hospital security position helps protect patients, caregivers, visitors, facilities, and property while supporting a safe and respectful healthcare environment. The Public Safety Officer conducts patrols, monitors entrances and security systems, responds to incidents, assists with emergency situations, and uses de-escalation skills when working with patients or visitors experiencing distress. Key Responsibilities Conduct routine and random patrols of hospital buildings, parking areas, and surrounding property.Monitor entrances and assist with metal-detector screening procedures.Observe security cameras, alarms, and access-control systems.Respond to disturbances, safety concerns, alarms, and emergency calls.Use verbal de-escalation and approved intervention techniques.Assist with emergency response, Code Gray incidents, and crowd control.Provide directions and professional assistance to patients, visitors, and caregivers.Enforce hospital safety policies and access restrictions.Document incidents and complete accurate security reports.Coordinate with hospital leadership, emergency responders, and law enforcement when necessary. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required.Previous security, public safety, military, healthcare, corrections, or customer-service experience may be preferred.Strong communication, observation, documentation, and de-escalation skills.Ability to remain calm and professional during emergencies and emotionally charged situations.Ability to stand, walk, patrol, and respond throughout the assigned shift.Valid Oregon driver’s license and an acceptable driving record may be required. License and Training Requirements Oregon DPSST Armed or Unarmed Security Professional certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.Completion of employer-required Code Gray, de-escalation, and emergency-response training.
