Public Safety Officer (Part-Time)

About the role

MATC is seeking a Public Safety Officer to patrol and maintain campus safety, enforce parking regulations, and assist with various administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

• Monitors campus safety, investigates disturbances, and provides emergency aid.
• Operates and monitors fire and security systems, closed circuit television systems.
• Patrols buildings and grounds, checks doors and windows, and conducts classroom checks.
• Removes locks and locker contents as part of locker searches.
• Polices parking areas, writes citations and warnings, and enforces parking regulations.
• Writes accurate and complete incident reports, and submits reports for supervisor review.
• Communicates by radio, telephone, and computer, and coordinates communications with other agencies.
• Assists with shift operations, provides information to co-workers, and resolves problems.
• Conducts emergency drills, provides safety puppet skits, and prepares for security escorts.
• Trains and prepares for collaborative teamwork and continuous learning.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in criminal justice or related field and three years of law enforcement/public safety experience.
• CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
• Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board (LESB) certification as a Wisconsin Peace Officer or similar law enforcement certification.
• Eligibility to possess a firearms permit from the State of Wisconsin’s Department of Regulations and Licensing.
• Knowledge of crime prevention methods and procedures.
• Proficiency in standard law enforcement equipment.
• Training and skill in community policing practices.
• Ability to interpret and apply techniques, procedures, and methods used in communications equipment.
• Ability to interpret and apply codes, policies, and procedures.
• Ability to interpret and apply Incident Command System and National Incident Management System to emergencies.
• Skilled in mediation and crisis intervention.
• Ability to remain calm and professional under stressful situations.
• Ability to perform basic math computations.
• Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
• Ability to establish, collaborate, and maintain effective work relationships.
• Knowledge of Google and Microsoft products.
• Ability to work with culturally diverse student and employee populations.

Benefits

Compensation includes hourly pay rates up to the midpoint of the range, with placement based on years of experience, internal equity, and a review of the applicant's employment and educational background.
