About the role

The Public Safety Officer I (PSO I) supports the Department of Public Safety (DPS) under the direction of the Sergeant. Essential duties include patrols, investigations, enforcing laws, responding to emergencies, and fostering relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols tribal lands, resorts, and gaming facilities using advanced strategies.
  • Observes and verifies information to prepare detailed reports.
  • Enforces laws and conducts investigations, including collecting and preserving evidence.
  • Responds to emergencies and handles first responder duties.
  • Interviews victims, witnesses, and suspects.
  • Shares information with visitors and fosters positive relationships.
  • Performs special assignments requiring specialized training and certifications.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum three (3) years of security experience.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Knowledge of security procedures, laws, and ordinances.
  • Ability to observe and analyze situations, communicate effectively, and make sound decisions.
  • Proficiency in report writing, defensive techniques, and firearms training.
  • Valid California Guard card and BSIS firearms certification.
  • Ability to work long hours, travel, and adapt to various environments.

Qualifications

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Working knowledge of security procedures and applicable laws.
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under stress.
  • Proficiency in producing well-written documents.
  • Physical stamina and endurance.
  • Acceptable hearing and visual acuity.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely.
