Responsibilities
- Provides security services with professionalism, fairness, and compassion.
- Ensures traffic control and monitors visitor conduct.
- Assists with information, directions, and physical help.
- Prevents, responds to, and investigates workplace violence.
- Responds to service calls involving combative or threatening individuals.
- Serves as a primary resource for de-escalation.
- Plans, prevents, practices, and responds to emergencies.
- Investigates incidents and completes timely reports.
- Delivers security awareness education to team members.
- Liaises with law enforcement and first responders.
- Maintains Department uniform and equipment in good repair.
- Performs routine patrols and audits of Interim Life Safety Measures.
- Manages patient valuables and conducts thorough contraband searches.
- Communicates effectively with all team members, patients, and visitors.
- Trains in various security protocols and equipment use.
Requirements
- Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) from IAHSS.
- A valid driver’s license and FOID/CCW license.
- Current Illinois 40-hour armed course with semi-automatic pistol endorsement.
- Passing scores on the State of IL Mandatory Annual Active Duty and Retired Officer Handgun Qualification Course of Fire.
- Ability to communicate effectively and defend self and others in case of physical confrontations.
- Physical fitness and ability to lift up to 35 lbs. and operate firearms.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Typically requires 1 year of experience in a security, related public safety, or customer service area.
Skills
- Mature judgment and sound reasoning.
- Quick assessment and appropriate action-taking in dangerous situations.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Computer proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel, navigating a web page, and database entry).
