About the role
The Public Safety Officer position is eligible for a $2,000 Sign on Bonus. This role contributes to patient care decisions, supports advanced medical technologies, and makes a difference in people's lives daily.
Responsibilities
- Acquires and applies job skills to provide a safe and secure environment.
- Makes security checks of facilities during non-operating hours.
- Controls patient and visitor traffic in the Emergency Department.
- Responds to security breaches when detected or dispatched.
- Enforces applicable federal, state, and local laws as they relate to public safety.
- Operates patrol vehicles safely and in accordance with Public Safety policies and procedures.
- Controls pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
- Enforces parking regulations in accordance with hospital or facility policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Public interactions work experience required.
- Work experience in related field preferred (law enforcement, military, or security management).
- Previous healthcare security experience preferred.
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification within 6 months of hire and maintained throughout employment required.
- Basic Security Officer Certification through the International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 6 months of hire and maintained throughout employment required.
- Driver's License in applicable state required.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, be 21 years of age or older, and have a Motor Vehicle records verification.
- Records must meet the criteria set forth in Vehicles – Company Owned/ Leased - NH-LD-RM-3.
- Driving records will be reviewed and vetted upon hire and must align with UVA Community Health standards.
- Satisfactorily completes all required organizational and departmental basic, field, and in-service training programs including the Corporate Public Safety Training Plan.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to accurately receive and transmit information by radio and telephone.
- Ability to translate observations and information into legible, complete, and accurate reports.
- No criminal record.
- Maintains compliance with the UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper Vehicle Use Policy.
- Immediately notifies Director of Public Safety or Public Safety Manager of any and all charges relating to the operation of a motor vehicle and/or criminal complaint.
