Public Safety Officer
About the role
The Public Safety Officer-Senior is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for the health of the communities served by UVA Community Health.
Responsibilities
- Makes security checks of facilities during non-operating hours.
- Controls patient and visitor traffic in Emergency Department.
- Responds to security breaches when detected or dispatched.
- Investigates suspicious activities and takes appropriate action.
- Interviews complainants, victims, and witnesses.
- Conducts preliminary investigations.
- Provides appropriate assistance to law enforcement officers upon request.
- Completes reports.
- Enforces applicable federal, state, and local laws as they relate to public safety.
- Responds to calls for service in accordance with established priorities.
- Operates patrol vehicles safely and in accordance with Public Safety policies and procedures.
- Controls pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
- Enforces parking regulations in accordance with hospital or facility policies and procedures.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 6 months of satisfactory experience as a Public Safety Officer at a UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper hospital or facility required.
- IAHSS Basic and Advanced Training Certifications required.
- Driver's license in applicable state required.
- Valid driver's license, be 21 years of age or older, and have a Motor Vehicle records verification.
- No criminal record.
- Maintains compliance with the UVA Health Northern VA Culpepper Vehicle Use Policy (NHLD-FM-3).
Qualifications
- Security, law enforcement or military experience preferred.
- Basic and advanced computer skills.
- Able to accurately receive and transmit information by radio and telephone.
- Able to translate observations and information into legible, complete, and accurate reports.
- Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
- Able to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment.
Skills
Employees who are hired into a position that requires the employee to drive a vehicle on behalf of the corporation must possess a valid driver's license, be 21 years of age or older and have a Motor Vehicle records verification. Records must meet the criteria set forth in Vehicles ndash; Company Owned/ Leased - NH-LD-RM-3. Driving records will be reviewed and vetted upon hire and must align with UVA Community Health standards.

Pay
The base compensation range for this role is $17.75- $27.28 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education. Please note that the pay range does not include any applicable incentive compensation programs such as shift differentials, clinical ladders, and other incentives that may be available for those in eligible positions.
