Public Safety Officer

Job Summary

Responsibilities

• Patrols buildings and grounds, both on foot and in vehicles;
• Alerts police personnel in the event of fire, suspicious condition, destruction of property or other observed criminal activity.
• Conducts detailed, and thorough, physical security checks of campus buildings, including all exterior entrances and internal areas of special concern;
• Reports any unusual conditions and takes appropriate corrective action, including the notification of maintenance personnel to effect repairs;
• Opens and secures buildings at scheduled times;
• Admits service contractors, faculty, staff and authorized students to buildings at scheduled time.

Qualifications and Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent;
• Must be able to lift 25 pounds;
• Possess a valid Maryland driver's license, or equivalent, with less than 5 points;
• Additional related experience and formal education may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis;
• Applicants must submit to and successfully pass a thorough background investigation;
• Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medical inquiries and/or medical examinations to determine ability to perform the job;
• Employees in this job class may be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.

• $40,315 annually and full University benefits;
