About the role
The Communications & Public Relations Specialist will support various aspects of public relations, corporate communications, community involvement, events, awards and recognition, client outreach, recruiting communications, and reputation-building efforts.
Responsibilities
- Draft press releases, company announcements, talking points, biographies, and other internal and external communications.
- Build relationships with industry publications and identify media, editorial, interview, and thought-leadership opportunities.
- Cook up employee communications, leadership messaging, and major company announcements.
- Cover community partnerships, charitable giving, sponsorships, volunteer activities, and workforce-development initiatives.
- Spot company, project, and employee award opportunities and coordinate submissions.
- Manage client and project survey outreach, track feedback, and identify testimonial and case-study opportunities.
- Coordinate client events, trade shows, ribbon cuttings, community events, speaking engagements, and other external activities.
- Partner with HR and Recruiting on career fairs, university outreach, internships, employment branding, and recruiting communications.
- Maintain communication calendars, media contacts, event records, award schedules, survey records, and program documentation.
- Track media coverage, survey participation, event performance, award submissions, sponsorship activity, and communication engagement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Typically 2-4 years of experience in public relations, corporate communications, media relations, marketing communications, community relations, events, or a related field.
- Strong writing, editing, proofreading, interviewing, and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organization and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Ability to gather information from technical or operational teams and translate it into clear, accurate communications.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with employees, executives, clients, media contacts, community organizations, schools, vendors, and industry partners.
- Comfortable reviewing survey results, engagement metrics, event outcomes, and other basic performance data.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and the ability to learn communication, survey, CRM, social media, project-management, analytics, and event tools.
- Experience in construction, architecture, engineering, manufacturing, building products, specialty contracting, or another project-based B2B environment is a plus.
Qualifications
This position is primarily office-based but includes occasional project-site visits, client and community events, trade shows, school events, and other external activities. Some local or regional travel and occasional early morning, evening, or weekend participation may be required.
