We are seeking a full-time Public Relations Specialist at our U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area.
About the role
In this role, you will focus on increasing awareness of Garmin’s products by facilitating the best possible editorial coverage in mainstream, endemic, and trade outlets, including digital, print, and broadcast media.
Responsibilities
- Communicate with journalists and other members of the media to drive awareness of Garmin’s products by demonstrating their unique advantages of compelling design, superior quality, and best value.
- Maintain and grow relationships with media contacts, product reviewers, podcasters, and YouTube influencers throughout the industries Garmin serves.
- Develop and write engaging PR pitches to generate positive coverage for Garmin products and features.
- Facilitate review/demo units and provide product demonstrations and overviews (virtual or otherwise).
- Support PR strategies and programs aligned with business goals, including PR plans, product pitches, press releases, award applications, and company statements and quotes.
- Utilize media database and monitoring tools to identify new contacts, publications, and story opportunities.
- Communicate PR plans to Garmin’s global offices and teams in other countries.
- Attend and represent Garmin at industry tradeshows and PR events.
- Plan and execute media events surrounding new product introductions, tradeshow activities, and other special events.
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of Garmin’s product line and the competitive landscape.
- Collaborate with Garmin’s Content Marketing and Corporate Communications team to develop compelling stories that keep Garmin in the news.
- Work productively on deadlines and respond quickly to time-sensitive media requests.
- Assist with other PR needs, including monitoring the Media Relations inbox.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of public relations, marketing experience, or equivalent work experience.
- Working knowledge of Garmin products and the market(s) served.
- Excellent verbal and presentation skills.
- Compelling writing skills and knowledge of Associated Press style guidelines.
- Outstanding professionalism, judgment, and integrity.
- Willingness to travel to trade shows and media events.
- Highly organized self-starter able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in or enthusiasm for consumer electronics and activities associated with Garmin products and services.
- Experience with digital/social media.
