Public Policy Advisor II
About the role
Mining Policy Advisor II at ALLETE, you will play a crucial part in shaping the future of our industry by analyzing public policy issues and advocating for positions that support our business and customers. Your responsibilities include monitoring emerging legislation and regulations, engaging with stakeholders, representing the company in regulatory processes, and delivering clear, strategic insights to decision-makers.
Responsibilities
- Provide analysis in the development and communication of Company positions on public policy issues.
- Maintain broad knowledge of legislative, economic, and environmental regulatory processes and stakeholder positions and identify how issues impact the Company.
- Assess the impact of emerging and proposed regulation and legislation, develop communications for governmental and regulatory bodies, help with the organization and implementation of stakeholder engagement processes, and represent the Company in state regulatory processes.
- Analyze possible solutions using standard procedures and solve a range of moderately complex problems.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Four years or more experience in state or federal government, or a similar level of experience working with the state or federal governmental process.
- A graduate-level degree in political science, public policy, or business management may be considered for up to one year of work experience.
- A valid driver’s license and the responsibility to maintain it.
- Willingness to travel to attend stakeholder meetings, regulatory or legislative proceedings or other events.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills to build and maintain positive working relationships and the ability to work with a wide variety of people.
Qualifications

- A degree in political science, public policy, business management, or a related field.

- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Benefits
The expected annual compensation range for this position is $67,000 - $84,000. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, and experience. Additionally, this position qualifies for a comprehensive benefits package including:
