Public Notice - Quality Assurance (Aerospace) (Direct Hire)

Positions are located at Stennis Space Center. NASA may fill roles at any of the following grade levels: GS-1910-9, GS-1910-11, GS-1910-12, or GS-1910-13. Duties described below reflect the highest advertised grade; lower-grade assignments will involve more limited scope, less independence, and reduced complexity.

Responsibilities

• Plan and/or perform inspections and audits of products and processes to ensure conformance to specifications, detect deficiencies in processing and technical documentation, and recommend corrective actions.
• Plan, review, and/or verify product quality using sampling inspection or more intensive techniques as appropriate based on product characteristics or quality history.
• Support the development and/or review of work instructions and technical data to identify critical product acceptability characteristics.
• Analyze quality data to detect unsatisfactory trends or conditions and weaknesses in the quality system.
• Perform routine inspection and investigative work to enforce occupational safety and health laws, applying technical knowledge of trades, crafts, or general safety practices.
• Participate in and/or conduct safety meetings to provide or reinforce training in safe work methods and standard accident prevention techniques; report unsafe conditions and work practices.
• Support, plan, and/or lead investigations of deficiencies, accidents, or close calls by collecting data and identifying apparent causes.
• Lead root cause analyses and corrective action efforts for nonconformances or mishaps.
• For supervisory positions: perform a full range of supervisory duties, including assigning and evaluating work, recommending personnel actions, taking disciplinary actions, and identifying training needs and developing employees.

Requirements

• Open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or those who owe allegiance to the U.S.
• May require a one-year probationary period.
• Subject to pre-employment background investigation or higher-level clearance, varying by duty location/NASA Center.
• Financial Disclosure, Drug Testing, and/or Travel Requirements may apply based on duty location/NASA Center.
• A one-year supervisory probationary period may be required.

Qualifications

Specialized experience is required for all grade levels. Experience must equip you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to perform the duties of this position successfully.

GS-09 Level

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level, including:
  • Assisting with quality assurance or operational safety for mechanical/electrical system fabrication, activation, or operations.
  • Assisting with evaluating compliance with work instructions, standards, codes, and policies supporting Propulsion Test activities.
  • Assisting with monitoring materials, equipment, and work processes for conformance to requirements.
• OR completed all requirements for a master’s or equivalent graduate degree in quality assurance, statistics, mathematics, production management, industrial management, computer science, engineering, engineering technology, physical sciences, textiles, or a directly related field.
• OR completed 2 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master’s or equivalent graduate degree in the fields listed above.
• OR an LL.B or J.D., if related.
• OR an equivalent combination of experience and graduate study as described above.

GS-11 Level

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level, including:
  • Applying Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements and safety engineering principles to identify hazards and perform systems safety analyses.
  • Providing technical guidance and assisting with resolving quality or safety issues found during production, fabrication, inspection, or testing.
  • Applying quality assurance methods to monitor, control, or improve product or service quality.
• OR completed all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in the fields listed above.
• OR completed 3 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in the fields listed above.
• OR an LL.M., if related.
• OR an equivalent combination of experience and graduate study as described above.

GS-12 Level

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level, including:
  • Applying OSHA requirements and safety engineering principles to identify hazards and perform systems safety analyses.
  • Providing leadership or technical guidance to resolve quality or safety issues found during production, fabrication, inspection, or testing.
  • Monitoring materials, equipment, and work processes for conformance to requirements.
  • Monitoring, controlling, or improving products or service quality in accordance with quality assurance methods or techniques.

GS-13 Level

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level, including:
  • Applying OSHA requirements and safety engineering principles to identify hazards and oversee systems safety analyses.
  • Providing supervision, leadership, or technical guidance to resolve quality or safety issues found during production, fabrication, inspection, or testing.
  • Managing or overseeing materials, equipment, and work processes for conformance to requirements.
  • Monitoring, controlling, or improving products or service quality in accordance with quality assurance methods or techniques.
