Public Health Technician/Epidemiologist

Bering-Alaka`ina Holdings, LLC has a potential need for a Public Health Technician/Epidemiologist to provide support for our government customer in Dayton, OH, at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.

Responsibilities

  • Provide epidemiological expertise for the Operational Consultation Support team and support the technical performance of the Studies and Analysis Portfolio.
  • Assist in producing timely and accurate routine and ad hoc reports, supporting special study methods, and assigned protocols.
  • Assist in the execution of prioritized scientific investigations with researchers and higher-level personnel in determining mitigation, hand-off, or other disposition of identified operational health issues among AF members requiring research support.
  • Assist in designing, formulating, conducting, and leading data analysis of health surveillance data, health records, military personnel records, military operational records, and other relevant military records at the individual, unit, and total force populations to provide human performance and operational surveillance support.
  • Collect data from various databases, pursuant to agreements with database owners.
  • Provide conference support assistance by active participation in professional conferences, preparation of posters and presentations, and publication of peer-reviewed manuscripts to support distribution of study products.
  • Acquire data access permissions necessary to perform stated tasks.
  • Perform a full range of science and technology support in various research functions, including data collection, program analysis, monitoring activities, and the preparation of reports and summaries.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate activities of functional specialists including scientists, engineers, contracting, program control, test, and logistics.
  • Use qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques to collect and compile data on program operation effectiveness and cost-benefit using prescribed methodologies.
  • Draft and/or edit study protocols, proposals, scientific abstracts, manuscripts, slide presentations, and posters as required.
  • Assist in briefings and production of documents to transfer knowledge of study products to customers at large.
  • Attend and support meetings related to expertise with government and civilian organizations, academia, and subject matter experts.
  • Provide studies and analysis support to researchers.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in public health or related discipline, with at least 5 years’ experience working in a public health, community health, or aerospace medicine clinic and a strong knowledge of epidemiology.
  • Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the public health field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with epidemiology in a healthcare or military environment.
  • Ability to design, formulate, conduct, and lead data analysis of operational studies on health surveillance data, health records, and other relevant military records to reduce negative health outcomes, readiness, or duty restrictions affecting the USAF total force population.
  • Capacity to use and/or learn new analytical technology tools such as Envision, Tableau, Python, R, SAS Viya, or Qualtrics.
  • Technical writing and presentation skills, including the ability to conduct scientific literature reviews and prepare technical reports, white papers, publications, memorandums, presentations, and other products.
  • Ability to apply and provide all information, in a timely manner, related to obtaining access to databases and data required to perform duties.
  • Professional, detail-oriented, with excellent communication skills and fluency in English.
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment yet complete assigned tasks independently or with minimal guidance from team leads.
  • Organizational skills; ability to achieve set goals; initiative in performing assigned tasks; ability to follow up on complex projects with influence and integrity; and ability to interact professionally with all levels of personnel within and outside the organization.
  • Willingness and ability to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen, born or naturalized (Green Card and/or Visa holders are ineligible).
  • Must be able to pass a minimum of a Tier 1 background check (T1)/SF85 for a clearance of Position of Trust.

Skills

  • Experience developing, administering, and analyzing surveys and/or questionnaires for research and/or occupational health questions.
  • Prior military experience or previous experience working in a military research environment (desired).
