About the role

Kern Community College District is accepting applications for part-time, hourly adjunct instructors to staff positions in the Kinesiology, Health & Athletics department at Bakersfield College – Panorama Campus, CA. Applications are held in a pool for up to two years and selected candidates may be contacted if a need arises. The starting salary range is $67.00/hour; the hourly rate may vary based on assignment type and the Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE) formula as outlined in the CCA collective bargaining agreement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in health science, health education, biology, nursing, physical education, kinesiology, exercise science, dietetics, nutrition, or public health; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND a Master’s degree in any biological science; OR
  • Equivalent qualifications as determined through the District’s equivalency review process.

Candidates with foreign degrees must have their coursework evaluated by a NACES or ACEI member service and submit a copy of the evaluation with their application. Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406).

A demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students is required.

  • Ability to work effectively with students with a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals;
  • Ability to develop curriculum, including curriculum delivered via different modalities;
  • Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain subject matter currency;
  • Ability to assess student learning outcomes;
  • Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit the program;
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission.
