About the role

The Public Health Informatician bridges public health practice and engineering on a disease surveillance modernization program. The role designs, configures, and troubleshoots end-to-end public health data flows, ensuring smooth ingestion, linkage, analysis, and reporting across the full data lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Own the data flows
  • Design, configure, and troubleshoot ELR, eCR, vital records, syndromic surveillance, and immunization data flows end to end
  • Apply expertise in public health data standards: HL7v2, FHIR, CDA, CSV, XML, and JSON
  • Support case notification implementation, including current and emerging Message Mapping Guides (MMGs)
  • Analyze payload and standards changes and translate them into engineering work the teams can execute
  • Solve onboarding problems
  • Resolve jurisdiction onboarding and migration challenges so the system meets data and workflow requirements
  • Validate page content and data porting packages against reporting requirements before release
  • Coordinate closely with engineering, product, and epidemiology subject matter experts to align system workflows with the operational realities of public health practice
  • Contribute to cross-functional delivery activities, including data and engineering tasks as needed
  • Serve as an escalation point behind user support for message-flow and data-quality issues

Requirements

Master of Public Health, health informatics degree, or equivalent applied experience
Hands-on experience with HL7v2 message construction and troubleshooting in production public health systems
Direct experience supporting state or local health department data operations
Working knowledge of public health vocabulary standards (LOINC, SNOMED CT)
Preferred Rhapsody or Mirth integration engine experience; PHINMS familiarity
Integrated disease surveillance system experience at the state or federal leveleCR and RCKMS familiarity
Experience working inside agile software teams

Qualifications

Location: remote (contractor facility), with core-hours availability 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM ETOccasional domestic travel to client and stakeholder sites

Benefits

This position is contingent upon contract award, with an anticipated start in October 2026

Pay

$125,000.00 to $135,000.00 - commensurate with experience and skillset
