About the role
The Public Affairs Specialist supports MARMC’s Public Affairs mission by developing communications, multimedia content, and outreach materials that inform employees, leadership, industry partners, and the public.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Executive Staff, Commanding Officer (CO), Executive Officer (XO), Executive Director (ED), Department Heads, Public Affairs Division leadership, and command personnel to maintain a robust Public Affairs program.
- Support the conceptualization, planning, administration, and evaluation of the command’s public affairs strategy and organizational messaging.
- Develop, write, edit, and submit articles for publication in regional Navy newspapers, MARMC newsletters, CNRMC, NAVSEA, and Navy news websites.
- Provide professional photography, video, and audio services for command events and communication products.
- Create and develop public affairs materials including invitations, tickets, flyers, booklets, programs, pamphlets, brochures, fact sheets, scripts, speeches, and other communication products.
- Serve as a Public Affairs representative in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and support MARMC Fire Response Team (FRT) activities as required.
- Provide on-site incident support to assist with media coordination, information dissemination, and public affairs response.
- Support crisis communication efforts by providing timely information, media support, and digital photographs during incidents.
- Maintain command communication platforms including the MARMC web calendar, website content, scrolling banner, information/weather advisory line, digital signage, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other electronic communication channels.
- Develop storyboards, conduct interviews, and create multimedia products supporting command initiatives.
- Create, upload, and maintain slide presentations and communication materials on command websites.
- Create instructional and informational materials, including how-to guides and advertising/training trifolds.
- Respond timely and appropriately to requests for information concerning agency programs, services, and activities.
- Develop and maintain communication products that enhance engagement between management and internal/external audiences.
- Produce and edit podcast materials and other digital media products.
- Prepare and deliver presentations to audiences, including situations involving opposing viewpoints or misunderstandings of agency positions.
- Bid and proposal support if requested.
Requirements
- An active secret clearance is required to be considered for this position.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Political Science, English, or related field required.
- Two (2) years of experience conceiving, developing, researching, writing, and editing a wide range of publications and communication materials, including technical magazines and newsletters.
- Knowledge of writing, editing, and communication principles, practices, and techniques for print and electronic media required.
- Knowledge of Associated Press (AP) Stylebook and U.S. Navy Style Guide required.
- Knowledge of Navy public affairs communication principles, practices, and techniques required.
- Knowledge of professional photography methods, digital imaging, and multimedia production required.
- Experience developing public affairs communication plans, news releases, speeches, scripts, feature stories, fact sheets, brochures, invitations, tickets, programs, flyers, and booklets required.
- Experience disseminating written informational materials through multiple platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, websites, and digital signage required.
- Experience establishing and enhancing communication between leadership and organizational audiences required.
- Experience producing high-resolution still and video imagery using professional photography and digital imaging equipment required.
- Experience operating photography, scanning, and digital imaging equipment to create professional color proofs and presentation materials required.
- Experience creating documents using Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Publisher required.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite programs including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Audition, and Premiere required.
- Ability to create professional written, electronic, and multimedia communication products required.
- Ability to make on-the-spot presentations to audiences with differing viewpoints or inaccurate understanding of agency positions required.
Qualifications
- Must possess basic computer literacy and data entry skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of the shipbuilding industry preferred.
