PTOC Lyons Lift Driver

Part-time, on-call position for the Lyons Lift program at Mount Holyoke College, providing accessible transportation on campus.

About the role

Lyons Lift Drivers operate a wheelchair-accessible van to support individuals with permanent or temporary mobility limitations, ensuring safe and friendly access to classes, dining, and other campus locations, as well as the Village Commons. This role involves working coverage shifts as needed and for special events.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safe transportation of individuals on route.
• Assist individuals entering and exiting the vehicle as needed.
• Provide curb-to-curb service in a professional, safe, and courteous manner.
• Conduct and document vehicle safety checks before each shift.
• Manage scheduling with passengers during shifts.
• Report and record all incidents to Public Safety Dispatch and document for the Lyons Lift Supervisor.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
• Keep the vehicle clean and free of trash.
• Record daily ridership records.
• Communicate any issues or concerns to the direct supervisor.
• Perform a safety check of the vehicle before and after each shift.
• Safely refuel the vehicle at the MHC pump.

Requirements

• Must be a fleet-certified driver or able to become certified.
• Valid driver’s license (any state) and satisfactory driving record (no violations within the last year).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with high call volume, especially before and after classes and during bad weather.
• Ability to assist individuals in and out of vehicles.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a pleasant, friendly demeanor.
• Effective communication with riders and supervisors.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently.
• Must be available to attend all meetings and training sessions.
• Satisfactory criminal background check and drug/alcohol screen may be required.
• All drivers and riders must wear seat belts; no cell phone usage or other distractions while driving.

Pay

Minimum starting rate of pay: $19.50 per hour.
