PT Instructor-Mass Communications Accelerated Evening & Online
About the role
Shaw University is seeking Part-Time (Adjunct) Faculty, Mass Communications for their Adult Degree Accelerated Programs. Reporting to the Division Head, the Adjunct Faculty of Mass Communications will teach traditional and/or non-traditional college-level students at on-campus and/or off-campus sites on weekdays and/or weeknights and Saturdays.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate acceptance and support of the University's mission and goals.
- Effectively teach knowledge-relevant college-level Mass Communication courses, with a commitment to providing excellence in education.
- Present course teachings in a way that encourages critical thinking, motivation, and value clarification.
- Engage in planning, developing, and improving curriculum offerings.
- Provide each student with a course syllabus on the first day of class that complies with University-approved requirements.
- Teach the course according to the syllabus, inform students about course objectives, requirements, grading system, and attendance policy, and provide a bibliography of suggested readings.
- Participate in orientation sessions conducted by the Division Head or CAPE Director.
- Awareness of and promotion of tutorial and support services of the Academic Support Center, including advising, tutorials, and first-year programs, and other departmental workshops associated with student learning.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Mass Communications from an accredited institution of higher learning required; Ph.D. preferred.
- Must possess the minimum credential standards of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), which normally include at least 18 graduate semester credit hours in the subject area or suitably approved justifications.
- Demonstrated success teaching at the college level, with teaching expertise in Mass Communications.
- Recent experience in a higher education setting preferred.
- Candidates with teaching experience and expertise in an additional area also offered in the assigned department are highly desired.
- Knowledge and experience in using instructional technology.
