American Heritage School is a mission-driven, faith-centered private school aligned with the teachings and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, seeking a part-time (5 hours per week) Online High School Digital Discipleship/AI Skills Builder Mentor who is committed to academic excellence and student development in a faith-centered environment.

About the Role

This position is considered a faith-forming role within the school community. In addition to providing strong academic instruction, the mentor is expected to actively support, model, and teach principles consistent with the Mission and values of AHS and the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The role requires a mentor who can positively influence students through both instruction and personal example, fostering a classroom culture grounded in faith, respect, and discipleship.

The ideal candidate will create a classroom atmosphere that inspires curiosity, encourages personal growth, and reflects Christian principles in daily mentoring and interactions.

Responsibilities

Mentoring

  • Bring a warm, energetic, and engaging presence that helps students feel supported, challenged, and inspired.
  • Demonstrate strong subject-matter knowledge and present material in a clear, organized, and meaningful way.
  • Foster curiosity and critical thinking, helping students connect classroom learning to the world around them.
  • Create engaging lessons that encourage thoughtful discussion and practical application of concepts.
  • Distill complex information into understandable principles while maintaining strong pacing, organization, and enthusiasm throughout instruction.

Communication and Organization

  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Maintain purposeful classroom routines that support effective learning.
  • Create and post assignments with clear instructions, models, and rubrics.
  • Monitor and communicate student progress consistently.
  • Maintain collaborative, timely, and positive communication with parents and colleagues.
  • Exhibit strong organizational skills and attention to detail to support student success and maintain a productive classroom environment.

Experience working with students who have specific learning disabilities is considered beneficial but is not required.

Faith and Mission

  • Integrate faith-based principles and moral reasoning into classroom instruction where appropriate.
  • Serve as an example of Christian character and discipleship to students.
  • Support and uphold the spiritual mission of the school through daily interactions with students and colleagues.
  • Participate in school-wide devotionals, prayer, and other faith-centered activities.
  • Respond thoughtfully to student questions related to faith, values, and moral decision-making in a manner consistent with the school's mission.

Professional Expectations

  • Be professional in appearance and demeanor.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the AHS Mission, Honor Code, and Diversity Statement.
  • Ensure personal conduct, public statements, and online presence—both on and off campus—reflect and support the school's religious mission and educational purpose.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • At least two years of mentoring experience, preferably within a formal educational setting.
  • Genuine love for mentoring youth.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare engaging lesson plans with clear learning objectives.
  • Commitment to actively participate in and contribute to a faith-based educational environment aligned with the teachings and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
  • Enthusiasm, consistency, and professionalism in the classroom.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional growth and the use of varied instructional methods to support student learning.

Schedule

This is a part-time position, approximately 5 hours per week, available for the August 2026 through June 30, 2027 school year.
