As a Grocery Clerk, you will keep all store grocery shelves stocked and clean during business hours, assist customers as needed, and maintain a friendly, energetic demeanor while adhering to all procedural guidelines set by the Grocery Department.

Responsibilities

• Ensure cleanliness of grocery shelves, storage area, and work area for safety; includes cleaning shelves, products, floors, and removing hazardous debris.
• Stock grocery shelves with proper presentation, facing, filling, and organization of products as per Grocery Department schematics; ensure tag and pricing accuracy.
• Examine rotation of all grocery products, discarding expired or spoiled items.
• Assist customers with purchases, information, and product selection; engage in selling and cross-selling of products.
• Receive, inspect, and log products for accuracy of shipment, temperature, and quality.
• Monitor point-of-purchase signs, recipe cards, product coupons, promotional materials, and information on complementary foods.
• Operate equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
• Use knowledge of scales and weight measures to accurately weigh and label products.
• Cut and stack cases for building grocery displays; price and mark merchandise.
• Participate in pre-inventory preparation, including back stock and ensuring tags match products.
• Maintain a high level of product knowledge and preparation.
• Walk the department regularly to ensure an organized, sanitary, and clean appearance at all times.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalency degree.
• Preferred 1–2 years of grocery retail experience in Grocery department processes and procedures.
• Previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus.
• Must maintain the highest level of customer service at all times.
• Ability to adapt to a high-volume retail environment while working in a cross-functional team.
• Capacity to take initiative when problems arise.
• Flexibility to adapt in a variety of situations.
• Advanced attention to detail with the capability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills for working with peers and senior management.
• Ability to multitask and strong organizational skills.
• Must support and contribute to team goals.
• Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates.
• Familiarity with Health Department guidelines and regulations as they pertain to a grocery retail environment.
• Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
• Understanding of proper handling, preparation, seasonality, and shelf life of products.

Pay

This position starts between $14.50 and $16.00 per hour. The actual rate offered will meet or surpass the legal wage requirement for the job's location. Raises occur in accordance with the Fresh Thyme Market plan policy.
