About the Role

Provide quality customer service within the Perishable Department at Food Lion, a grocery retailer serving over 10 million customers weekly across 10 states. Responsibilities include maintaining department standards, maximizing sales through customer service, and minimizing shrink.

Responsibilities

• Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with fast, friendly, and accurate service
• Assist and collaborate courteously with other associates
• Use company tools such as the average cost inventory system (ACIS) and ordering (CAO)
• Receive deliveries, code, rotate, and store products appropriately
• Ensure ordering, receiving, preparation, conditioning, and displaying of merchandise aligns with policies
• Maintain proper product levels in all Perishable Department areas (meat, lunchmeat, frozen, dairy, ice cream)
• Process beef and grinds as directed by the planned production tool
• Wrap, label, weigh, and stock the meat case as needed
• Assemble, disassemble, and clean the grinder
• Properly clean and sanitize the department
• Maintain variety and layout standards
• Utilize advertising and sales promotion materials effectively
• Adhere to company guidelines, policies, and standard practices
• Follow Food Safety and Workplace Safety guidelines and procedures
• Observe and correct unsafe conditions; report accidents to the Manager on Duty
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
• Wear the Food Lion uniform with name badge and maintain a neat appearance
• Complete required training (Computer Based Training, Training Packet, Training Aid courses)
• Perform all other assigned duties

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent preferred
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and customer service skills
• Ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements
• Problem-solving skills using technical information
• Must meet minimum age requirements for specific job functions
• Ability to meet physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations

Physical Requirements

• Use computers and communication systems for job functions
• Perform repetitive hand and arm motions
• Bend and lift products weighing up to 15 lbs. continuously, 25 lbs. frequently, and 50 lbs. occasionally
• Pull or push up to 75 lbs. occasionally; push/pull up to 2000 lbs. using a pallet jack
• Stand 100% of the time with frequent short-distance walking
• Handle substances associated with cleaning, packaging, fresh produce, plants, and household cleaners
• Frequent reaching and grasping at waist level; occasional reaching above shoulder or below waist
• Meet volume activity standards for the position
• Tolerate extreme hot/cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes at a time
• Sufficient visual ability to check IDs, checks, invoices, and documents
