Ball State University Dining has an opportunity for a part-time Food Service Worker position on the beautiful Ball State campus. This role focuses on creating excellent customer service experiences for students, faculty, staff, and employees.
About the Role
This position may work up to 28 hours per week. Candidates must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Schedule
Two-week rotating schedule:
- Sunday: 2p–10:30p
- Monday: 5p–10p
- Tuesday: 5p–10p
- Wednesday: Off
- Thursday: 5p–10p
- Friday: 3:30p–8:30p
- Saturday: Off
- Sunday: Off
- Monday: 5p–10p
- Tuesday: 5p–10p
- Wednesday: 5p–10p
- Thursday: 5p–10p
- Friday: Off
- Saturday: 12p–8:30p
Responsibilities
- Accurately assemble supplies and materials; set up service area and serve food as required.
- Hand wash and store pots, pans, and food service equipment.
- Clean equipment and work area, maintaining sanitation and safety in compliance with University Waste Management procedures.
- Perform checker/cashier duties using computerized machinery, terminals, and calculators; maintain records.
- Greet customers to ensure positive relationships.
- Set up, operate, and clean dishwashing machinery and auxiliary equipment; move dishware and equipment to proper locations.
- Scrape and wash dishes.
- Clean, prepare, store, and deliver fresh produce.
- Count and record amounts of food prepared and/or served.
- Grill or carve food as required.
- Obtain supplies from storage areas.
- Assist with laundry program.
- Wait and bus tables as assigned.
- Assign work to and direct student employees.
- Assist cooks in preparing food.
- Enforce all rules and regulations, including proper payment of food and adherence to procedures by university employees; report violations to management.
Requirements
- Physical ability to walk, push, pull, climb, crouch, reach, stoop, feel, finger, stand for extended periods, and exert up to 35 pounds of force unassisted.
- Visual ability to read thermometers, menus, computer records, distinguish color, perceive depth, and determine cleanliness.
- Ability to use beverage machines, toasters, ice cream machines, ice dispensers, salad bars, food warmers, glassware and china dispensers, serving utensils, gloves, and other food service equipment.
- Mental ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, follow oral and written instructions, and provide information.
- Exposure to inside environmental conditions, noise, extreme heat, chemicals, steam, and cleaning compounds.
- Ability to keep hands in water for several hours per day.
- Dexterity and strength in hands, arms, and shoulders.
Pay
$16.41 - $16.56 per hour
