Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board (H-NNCSB) is seeking compassionate and dependable Part-Time Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to support adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) in residential and community-based programs throughout Hampton and Newport News. What You'll Do

As a Direct Support Professional, you'll provide person-centered care and daily support that helps individuals live as independently as possible while maintaining their health, safety, and well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals with activities of daily living, including personal care, hygiene, meal preparation, and household routines.
  • Encourage independence by teaching life skills and supporting individual goals.
  • Provide guidance and supervision in residential and community settings.
  • Assist with medication administration and follow individualized service plans.
  • Support participation in community outings, recreational activities, appointments, and social events.
  • Observe and report changes in behavior, health, or daily functioning.
  • Complete accurate documentation in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Promote a safe, respectful, and person-centered environment.

Our Programs

Residential Services – Support adults living in group homes, waiver homes, and Intermediate Care Facilities (ICFs), providing 24-hour care and supervision while encouraging independence and community involvement.

Creative Options Program – Provide community-based support that focuses on life skills development, community inclusion, employment readiness, relationship building, and increasing independence.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year of experience providing direct care or support to adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), behavioral health needs, mental illness, or in residential, healthcare, or human services settings.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while providing compassionate, person-centered care.

Pay & Schedule

  • Hourly Pay: $18.17–$20.44 per hour
  • Shift Differential: Earn an additional $2.50 per hour for eligible evening, overnight, and weekend shifts.
  • Schedule: Flexible part-time schedules available, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, overnights, and weekends.
