About the role

Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board (H-NNCSB) is seeking a Part-Time Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide compassionate care and support to adults with serious mental illness residing in our Residential Behavioral Health Program.

This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy building meaningful relationships, encouraging independence, and making a positive impact every shift.

About The Program

Our Residential Behavioral Health Program provides a safe, structured living environment for adults with serious mental illness. Through individualized support, staff help residents strengthen daily living skills, manage their mental health, and successfully remain integrated within the community.

As a member of our team, you will work closely with supervisors and clinical professionals to provide person-centered care that promotes recovery, stability, and independence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision and support in a residential behavioral health setting.
  • Assist individuals with daily living activities, medication reminders, meal preparation, and household routines.
  • Encourage skill development that promotes greater independence.
  • Monitor residents' behaviors and emotional well-being, reporting significant changes to the treatment team.
  • Support participation in appointments, recreational activities, and other community-based services.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation in accordance with agency policies.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and recovery-oriented environment while protecting client confidentiality.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, clinicians, and other team members to ensure quality care.

Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year of experience providing direct support to adults with serious mental illness, behavioral health needs, or co-occurring disorders.
  • Valid Virginia driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, work independently, and function as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to person-centered care.

Pay

Hourly Pay: $20.44. Shift Differential: $2.50/hour for evening, overnight, and weekend shifts.

Schedule

Work Schedule: Every other weekend (Sat and Sun) 8a-4:30p, 4:00p-12:30a, 12:00a-8:30a
