Psychotherapist Outpatient

Responsibilities

  • Provides quality individual, couple, family, and/or group therapy focused on the patient's identified diagnosis and needs.
  • Provides crisis intervention to new and current patients as needed; available 24 hours a day for current caseload.
  • Delivers clinical/therapeutic services to a diverse client population with professionalism.
  • Applies brief therapeutic intervention models as appropriate.
  • Conducts comprehensive assessments, diagnoses, formulates and monitors individualized treatment plans, and implements treatment interventions in accordance with departmental and hospital policies.
  • Provides case management and utilization review services for assigned caseload.
  • Educates patients and families as needed and makes appropriate referrals within Aurora Behavioral Health Services or externally to ensure continuity of care.
  • Serves as a liaison with referral sources in coordination with other staff for discharge planning.
  • Actively participates in clinical supervision, peer review, and consultation with other professionals, including clinical team treatment staffing.
  • Provides community education, outreach, referral development, and marketing efforts to generate new business.
  • Completes all documentation responsibilities (e.g., treatment plans, discharge summaries, aftercare plans, billing records) accurately and within established timelines.
  • Assists in treatment development, innovation, and performance improvement activities as directed.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, including assessing and interpreting patient data relative to their age-specific needs.
  • Must be able to restrain and control patients who are outwardly psychotic or physically combative.

Requirements

  • Professional Counselor license issued by the State of Wisconsin or Illinois, or
  • Marriage and Family Therapist license issued by the State of Wisconsin or Illinois, or
  • Clinical Social Worker license issued by the State of Wisconsin or Illinois.
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or a related field.
  • Typically requires 1 year of experience providing therapy in behavioral health.
  • Some positions may require a Master’s Degree in Social Work and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) status upon hire.
  • Some positions may require one of the following Substance Abuse licenses: Substance Abuse Counselor-In-Training, Substance Abuse Counselor, Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor, or Clinical Supervisor-In-Training.

Skills

  • Extensive knowledge and skills in behavioral health and/or substance abuse treatment theory, practice, and techniques.
  • Skilled as a generalist with one or more specializations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to function in a complex mental health delivery system.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Frequently lifts up to 25 lbs. without assistance; occasionally lifts over 25 lbs. with assistance.
  • Exposure to hazards such as mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood, and body fluids.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
