Psychometrist (Full Time)

About the Role

The psychometrist provides direct patient care under the supervision of a clinical neuropsychologist. The psychometrist will administer and score tests to evaluate patients' neuropsychological, cognitive, academic, behavioral, and emotional status. This role serves patients who have problems affecting their brain and behavior as a result of neurodegenerative conditions, cerebrovascular disease, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, stroke, brain tumor, traumatic brain injury, substance use disorders, and other neurological, developmental, and psychiatric syndromes.

The psychometrist will work closely with patients for extended periods to administer standardized, interactive tests, relating to patients in a calm, sensitive, and empathic manner to establish and maintain cooperation and optimal performance. The work informs diagnosis and provider recommendations regarding a patient's ability to return to school or work, capacity for independence, need for accommodations, and other treatment decisions.

Other responsibilities include maintaining testing materials, supporting neuropsychologists with administrative tasks, providing technical support on specialty teams, and contributing to clinical research projects.

Responsibilities

• Accurately administers and records responses, times, and scores tests/observations concerning the patient's performance during testing sessions using standardized methods and protocols.
• Assists neuropsychologists in selecting tests to be administered, troubleshooting difficult testing situations, and adapting test administration to patient needs while adhering to standardized procedures.
• Ensures patients are giving their best performance on tests and communicates test scores and associated information to neuropsychologists in a timely and professional manner.
• Remains sensitive, alert, and resourceful during testing to tailor the approach to patients' special needs, especially when dealing with impaired or disturbed patients.
• Provides a written summary of the patient’s behavior during testing, including incidental observations of interactions with guests or family members.
• Maintains record-keeping and data retrieval systems associated with test batteries.
• Screens neuropsychology patients for behavioral and cognitive impairments using standardized testing batteries.
• Coordinates with the neuropsychology team to ensure accurate interpretation of results, including sharing scores and other criteria.
• Completes examinations and test batteries for unique clinical populations.
• Supports data collection, research, publication, and other non-testing tasks as directed by neuropsychologists.
• Reviews and ensures the timeliness, accuracy, availability, and security of information.
• Assists with research projects, special groups, and organizational performance improvement initiatives.
• Complies with infection control, health, and safety policies and procedures.
• Implements measures to promote a safe environment for patients and families.
• Completes orientation and annual hospital and unit-specific competencies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related field required.
• Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
• Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
• Attention to detail is critical.
• Must represent UnityPoint Health positively in all interactions.
• Ability to develop and facilitate interagency communication to implement program goals and objectives.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal communication and people skills.
• Proficiency with usual and customary equipment used in the role.
