Psychologist Level II

About the Role

This class of positions encompasses professional and/or supervisory work in the field of psychology, providing psychological services to individuals and groups across various settings, including Forensic Psychiatric Evaluation Court Clinics (FPECC). The role ensures patient-centered quality care and services in support of better outcomes and improved patient experience, in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations, and psychology standards of care.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate individuals' emotional and intellectual functioning through clinical interviewing and/or the selection, administration, and interpretation of standard group and individual tests of personality development and intellectual capacity.
• Maintain suitable records and files of test performance and treatment results.
• Prepare reports of psychological findings for inclusion in clinical case histories and files.
• Consult with psychiatrists, social workers, judges, and other relevant parties regarding diagnoses, prognoses, and recommendations for disposition of individual cases.
• Attend and participate in psychological and general staff conferences.
• Participate in individual and group research, including evaluating data and preparing research reports for publication.
• Provide psychological consultation services on non-clinical issues and offer consultation to other City agencies.
• Administer psychotherapy as part of treatment programs, including neuro-psychological and vocational assessments.
• Prepare commitment papers, including write-ups and documentation for cases.
• Provide instruction or training in psychodiagnostic and/or therapeutic techniques.
• Oversee the work of psychology interns, social workers, and paraprofessional mental health workers.
• Conduct research on test development and contribute to the formulation of hypotheses and research design details.
• Testify in court or at other hearings.
• Supervise unlicensed psychologists and other subordinate staff in diagnosis, therapy, and research, coordinating their activities with other professionals.
• Evaluate and develop habilitation plans, treating individuals for addictions, cognitive impairments, and neuropsychological disorders.
• Administer therapy in difficult atypical cases, including individual, group, and family counseling.
• Coordinate and conduct training programs, case conferences, and seminars for training purposes.
• Provide formal and informal instruction to psychologists and psychologists-in-training on diagnostic, therapeutic, and research techniques.
• Conduct in-service training programs by organizing and staffing conferences and seminars, developing curricula, and evaluating program efficiency.
• Participate as part of a 24-hour trauma team providing counseling/evaluation in crisis situations within the New York metropolitan area.
• Work with the City's Family Court System to conduct assessments for termination of parental rights, custody disputes, neglect, and abuse cases.
• Provide evaluations of fitness to proceed and pre-sentencing evaluations to Criminal Courts.

Requirements

• Valid license and current registration to practice as a Psychologist issued by the NYSED; or
• Within six (6) months of appointment, must obtain a valid license and current registration to practice as a Psychologist issued by the NYSED and provide proof that the following documentation has been submitted to NYSED:
  • Proof of passing the licensing examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) by the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB).
  • Application for Licensure (Form 1).
  • Certification of Professional Education (Form 2).
  • Reports of Professional Experience/Certifications of Supervised Experience (Form 4).
  • Note: Post-doctoral experience in NYS must have been obtained under a NYS Limited Permit.
  • If already licensed in another State, Certification of Out-of-State Licensure and Exam Grades (Form 3) and Certification of Licensed Experience (Form 4F) should be substituted for Form 4 above.
