Psychologist - Child and Adolescent Outpatient

About the Role

The Child and Adolescent Psychologist functions as a Clinical Psychologist under the supervision of the Director of Psychology at the Debra Simon Center, adhering to the Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct of the American Psychological Association, guidelines from the New Jersey Board of Psychological Examiners, and standards set forth by the Joint Commission.

The Psychologist serves as a member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team to optimize whole-person health and wellness, independently diagnosing and treating behavioral health disorders and aspects of psychological adjustment. Patients at the Debra Simon Center present with the full range of DSM diagnoses, often subject to compound stressors and comorbid medical conditions.

The Psychiatry Department at HUMC offers focused, evidence-based treatments (e.g., CBT, DBT, ACT), and the psychologist is expected to facilitate this delivery, including training and supervising junior clinical staff. The role also involves supervising and mentoring psychology trainees and medical students, and contributing to the development of psychology externship, internship, and post-doctoral programs.

Responsibilities

• Perform the duties of a Psychologist as prescribed by training, standards, and medical staff appointment.
• Participate in all phases of the outpatient process, including:
  • Performing intake assessments and developing/updating treatment plans.
  • Providing empirically-based treatment in individual, family, and group modalities.
  • Working with families and community resources to provide patient support.
  • Supervising trainees and less experienced staff.
  • Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team and attending disposition and other staff meetings.
• Conduct diagnostic evaluations, provide DSM diagnoses supported by evaluation findings, and demonstrate proficiency in using and interpreting brief assessment tools.
• Deliver effective, evidence-based treatment for individuals, couples, families, and groups, evaluating treatment effectiveness with outcome-driven data and modifying treatment plans accordingly.
• Maintain productivity and treatment guidelines based on departmental standards.
• Serve as a consultant in the Department of Psychiatry for Behavioral Health, providing consultations within the medical center and acting as a resource for mental health information to other departments and community agencies.
• Participate in professional and community educational conferences and seminars for ongoing development.
• Provide program services in accordance with HUMC policies, Joint Commission standards, and the New Jersey Board of Psychological Examiners.
• Adhere to the Medical Center’s Organizational and Managerial Competencies and HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
• Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree from an APA-accredited program in Clinical Psychology (PhD or PsyD).
• Completion of an APA-approved internship in Adult Clinical and/or Pediatric Psychology.
• Proficiency in evidence-based treatments (e.g., CBT, ACT, DBT).
• Minimum of 5 years of related clinical experience serving patients across the mental health spectrum.
• Experience providing clinical training and supervision, with a commitment to training the next generation of psychologists.
• Sensitivity to multiculturalism and diversity.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills, including Google Suite platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

• Postdoctoral training and/or experience in Clinical Psychology.

Licenses and Certifications

• New Jersey Psychologist License.

Pay

The minimum annual base pay for this role is $113,609.60. HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency, with compensation benchmarked against market data and determined based on factors such as experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, and budget considerations.
