About the role

The VA Long Beach Healthcare System (VALBHS) is seeking Staff Psychologists to serve within the Mental Health service. Positions are available for the Long Beach PTSD Program and for BHIP (Long Beach - Santa Ana - Santa Fe Springs).

Responsibilities

  • Provide a full range of psychological assessment services and diagnoses mental health disorders.
  • Provide education to patients, family members, and significant others.
  • Provide comprehensive, evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual and group psychotherapy.
  • Develop, implement, and document the psychotherapeutic treatment plan for an assigned caseload of patients.
  • Assist the Mental Health Care Group Chief and/or Chief Psychologist in the execution of ongoing program evaluation and data-driven quality improvement projects to monitor the effectiveness of the clinical program.
  • Attend and participate in administrative and informational meetings held by the Chief Psychologist and Psychology Training Director, as applicable.
  • Once licensed, provide clinical supervision and instruction for assigned psychology trainees.

Requirements

Basic Requirements:

  • Citizen of the United States.
  • Have a doctoral degree in psychology from an APA, PCSAS, or CPA accredited program.
  • Internships:
    • Successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program accredited by APA or CPA.
    • May be considered eligible for hire if the internship was not accredited but the applicant is currently board certified.
  • Licensure:
    • Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
  • Board Certification:
    • Must be board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in a specialty area consistent with the assignment.

Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • Graduate Psychologist: No additional experience required beyond basic requirements.
    • Staff Psychologist: At least one year of experience as a professional psychologist equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, with at least one year equivalent to the GS-12 grade level.

Skills

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply a wide range of professional psychological treatments or assessment methods to a variety of patient populations.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional psychological treatments to the full range of patient populations.
  • Knowledge of clinical research literature.

Grade: GS-13

Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8:00a-4:30p
