Responsibilities

  • Participate in morning report and inpatient rounds
  • Participate in and help facilitate multidisciplinary treatment team meetings
  • Attend court commitment hearings, administrative hearings (e.g., for medication over objection requests), and hearings for patients adjudicated Not Criminally Responsible who are seeking court privileges
  • Present a Clinical Case Conference
  • Be involved in the full spectrum of inpatient care in a state psychiatric hospital setting including initial evaluations, weekly progress assessments, and discharge planning
  • Collaborate with a general medicine service to assess and treat co-occurring medical disorders
  • Assist in writing Institutional Reports and Annual Reports that are submitted to forensic evaluators and the court when a Not Criminally Responsible (NCR) patient requests privileges
  • Assist in writing Progressive Treatment Plans (PTPs) to help patients maintain adherence to treatment following discharge

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

  • Completion of a psychiatry residency program
  • Board certification in Psychiatry
  • Experience working with patients with severe and persistent mental illnesses, often with co-occurring personality disorders and substance use disorders
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of forensic psychiatry and civil commitment procedures

Pay

The pay for this position is commensurate with experience.

Schedule

The schedule for this position is 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
