About the role

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a psychiatrist to join Richmond Hospital’s Department of Psychiatry in a permanent appointment that fills three part‑time positions (total 1.0 FTE). The roles are based at Richmond Hospital and include:

  • Psychiatry Consult Liaison Program (0.2 FTE): Provides consultation and short‑term management of general mental health conditions for patients admitted to medical and surgical wards, collaborating with primary care teams.
  • Richmond Rapid Access Consult Clinic (0.3 FTE): Delivers rapid consult services for urgent referrals from the Emergency Department and community family physicians.
  • Richmond Hospital In‑Patient Service (0.5 FTE): Offers psychiatric assessment and treatment for in‑patients, conducts consultations in the Emergency Department, and works closely with primary care teams.

Richmond Hospital is a 228‑bed acute‑care facility serving a local population of 200,000 plus an additional catchment of nearly 120,000. The hospital is undergoing a campus‑wide expansion slated for completion in 2028.

Responsibilities

  • Perform psychiatric assessments and provide treatment to adult patients in medical, surgical, and emergency settings.
  • Collaborate and liaise with primary care teams to ensure integrated patient care.
  • Provide rapid consult and counseling services for urgent referrals.
  • Supervise medical students and psychiatry residents as needed.
  • Participate in team‑based care models within the hospital’s psychiatry services.

Requirements

  • Medical licensure and board certification in psychiatry.
  • Eligibility to practice psychiatry in British Columbia.
  • Experience providing psychiatric care to adult populations in hospital settings.
  • Ability to supervise medical students and residents.
  • Submission of a resume and cover letter is required.
  • Compliance with Ministry of Health vaccine and infection‑history reporting policies for all new hires.
