Psychiatrist

Responsibilities

• Provides diagnostic assessment for each patient through a psychiatric interview.
• Affirms the assessment of risk of hurting self or others.
• Determines the required level and type of care for the patient, including inpatient care if necessary.
• Completes a 9.39 MHL (One Physician Certification) to allow inpatient hospitalization against the patient's will.
• Evaluates psychiatric, substance abuse, and medical issues.
• Requests medical consultation from the General ER physicians and collaborates on the safest and most appropriate disposition.
• Documents findings in the medical record, obtains consent, and provides initial orders for inpatient psychiatric care and detoxification.
• If the patient does not require inpatient care, provides an aftercare referral recommendation if appropriate.

Qualifications

• Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
• Board Eligible or Board Certified in Psychiatry.
• Licensed and currently registered in New York State.
• Credentialed as a member of the Medical Staff of Interfaith Medical Center.
