About the role

Correctional Health Services in Phoenix, Arizona, is seeking a BE/BC psychiatrist to work within an interdisciplinary team to provide integrated health care to patients navigating the judicial system. This position offers the opportunity to impact people when they are at their most difficult times, making substantial positive changes in the lives of incarcerated individuals, their families, and the community.

Job Contributions

  • Evaluate new admissions to reach a diagnosis and treat identified mental illness
  • E-revaluate patients under care to refine diagnosis and treatment as indicated
  • Prescribe medications following the CHS Pharmacy Formulary
  • Document evaluation, treatment, and other patient interactions clearly and thoroughly, and in compliance with licensure and accreditation requirements
  • Participate in the management of patients who require involuntary treatment, including Court-ordered evaluation, participation in the Psychiatric Medication Review Board, and ordering the administration of involuntary medications as indicated
  • Participate as a member of the Mental Health Interdisciplinary Treatment team, assist the team in developing Special Needs Treatment Plans, and coordinate with the Forensic Team for any patients in a forensic program
  • Participate in the development of psychiatric protocols and clinical practice guidelines to ensure medical services are provided in a cost-effective manner that is consistent with psychiatric standards and appropriate for the correctional setting
  • Assist with preparation for licensure and accreditation surveys
  • Maintain licensure, certifications, and other credentialing as indicated

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in psychiatric evaluation and treatment
  • Doctoral degree in Medicine (MD, DO)
  • Completed accredited Residency Program in Psychiatry
  • Current license as a Psychiatrist in the State of Arizona issued by the State of Arizona Medical Board
  • Experience working with incarcerated individuals
  • Experience working with mentally ill patients in an institutional environment
  • Clozapine REMS certified
  • Suboxone waiver
