About the role

Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) is seeking a Psychiatrist to provide psychiatric care across a continuum of behavioral health services. This role supports individuals with a wide range of mental health needs in outpatient, inpatient, and telehealth settings, depending on program assignment. Psychiatrists are key members of the treatment team and help guide clinical decision-making, care planning, and medication management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric assessments to new, returning, and transferring patients and document encounters thoroughly with attention to collaborative participation from the patient.
  • Manage an ongoing caseload of patients requiring medication and non-medication management; clients may be inpatient, outpatient, or both, depending on the particular job assignment.
  • Provide care in various settings as medically and situationally appropriate, including in-person and via telehealth (audio-visual).
  • Partner with and support the team leaders and help to coordinate clinical decisions of the treatment team, including care planning, prioritization of goals, and assessment of progress.
  • Participate with utilization management/review and understand or be willing to learn the coding guidelines necessary to encounter the clinical services appropriately rendered.
  • Provide education to teams about medication management, safety, and side-effect monitoring.
  • Coordinate clinical decisions with other medical providers and collaborating treatment partners.
  • Document concurrently in most cases and when practicable; provide clinical documentation in a complete, accurate, and timely manner.
  • Provide cross-coverage, when called upon, for other units and services requiring psychiatric care services, as determined by the Medical Director.
  • Participate in on-call coverage rotation for the 24-hour programs as determined by the Medical Provider Team (typically 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. on weekdays and 24/7 on weekends).
  • May participate in precepting and education for medical residents, psychiatric ARNPs, and DNPs; provide formal or informal education to the team (e.g., presenting cases, lectures, and in-services).
  • Participate in administrative activities, including meetings of the Medical Services Team and quality assurance activities.
  • Support the public mission and values of KMHS, offering hope and opportunity for people of all ages through comprehensive, recovery-oriented behavioral health care.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (MD/DO)
  • Experience: Completion of ABMS Certified Residency
  • Licensure: MD/DO licensed to practice medicine in Washington
  • Certification: Active and unencumbered DEA, registered in WA State; board certified or board eligible

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialization in psychiatry
  • Specialist with a minimum of 5 years of job-related experience

Performance Requirements

  • Knowledge:
    • Evidence-based treatments in psychiatric management of a broad array of mental health problems and severe mental illness.
    • Maintains a working knowledge of current trends in community mental health, including health care reform.
    • Willingness to learn and follow mental health rehabilitation standards.
    • Experience or willingness to gain experience in working with individuals with psychosis.
    • Knowledge and experience assessing suicidality and safety concerns; required state training in suicide prevention strategies.
    • Knowledge and experience working with mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders.
  • Skills:
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, clients, organizations, and the public.
    • Communicate and manage care collaboratively with other treating medical providers, including primary care and specialty care providers.
    • Operate a personal computer, fax machine, printer, and copier with proficiency.
    • Participate in leadership and consultative capacity appropriate to the role in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Abilities:
    • Demonstrated experience using an Electronic Medical Record to generate evaluations, clinical notes, letters, and reports on time consistent with agency policy and in accordance with state and federal requirements.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage time and schedule to meet patient care needs and agency requirements.
  • Worksite-Specific Requirements:
    • Almira Main Campus: No additional requirements for this location.
    • Remote: Maintain a safe, secure, and professional workspace with reliable internet; ensure confidentiality and compliance with KMHS policies (including HIPAA); remain fully available and responsive during scheduled work hours.

Pay

Exempt (salaried): $223,308.80 – $366,163.20 per year
