Full-time, on-site position. Monthly salary: $2,349.00 - $3,519.00 ($28,188.00 - $42,228.00 annually). Current approved hiring rate: $3,250 monthly ($39,000 yearly). Requires a criminal background check.
Overview
Under general supervision, this position involves psychiatric technical work of average difficulty in a psychiatric hospital. Responsibilities include providing direct care on patient units, such as daily living assistance, individualized and group teaching, and supervised medical support. Some roles may also include clerical or administrative duties related to patient admissions, documentation, scheduling, or unit operations. Work schedules may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
Note: Applicants must successfully complete an approved Psychiatric Technician training course with the State of Tennessee or pass an equivalent examination. Failure to do so may result in termination.
Responsibilities
- Provides basic and/or emergency/psychiatric medical assistance under direct supervision of a licensed health care provider.
- Rescues injured patients and/or escorts patients to appropriate areas during emergencies.
- Teaches patients daily living skills through demonstration, one-on-one instruction, videos, or booklets to help them function at their highest level.
- Promotes social interaction by encouraging patient participation in group activities and discussions.
- Identifies patients at risk based on current medical assessments and follows established safety protocols.
- Monitors patients during medication administration and meals to ensure compliance with prescribed regimens; tracks office and medical supplies.
- Identifies and intervenes in problematic interactions between staff and patients to prevent escalation.
- Restrains patients to prevent injuries to themselves or others when necessary.
- Reports observed progression or regression in patients to supervisors to adjust training or treatment plans.
- Meets with staff to discuss and document patient behavior or other hospital situations.
- Maintains a sanitary living environment by cleaning work areas, supplies, and equipment.
- Inspects patients' belongings, rooms, and other areas for contraband, safety hazards, or equipment issues.
- Performs clerical or administrative tasks such as completing forms, entering data, maintaining records, processing admissions, answering phones, and explaining HIPAA laws and patient rights.
- Adheres to HIPAA and other regulatory standards relevant to job duties.
- Attends annual and periodic in-service training to stay updated on methods and technologies.
Requirements
- Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school.
- A valid motor vehicle operator license may be required; some positions may require a FOR HIRE (F) endorsement.
- Must meet State of Tennessee driver standards:
- No DUI, reckless driving, or license suspension for moving violations in the past five years.
- No more than 4 moving violations in the past five years (exceptions may apply).
- Must successfully complete an approved Psychiatric Technician training course or pass an equivalent examination.
