Psychiatric Social Worker - PRN - Behavioral Health

About the Role

Under minimal supervision and according to professional standards, this role prepares social histories and evaluations of psychiatric patients' psychosocial needs based on data obtained in interviews with patients and families. As a member of an interdisciplinary team, you will participate in formulating effective treatment and discharge plans and counsel patients and families on problems related to current hospitalization and those anticipated post-discharge. The focus is on assessing the family's role in the current illness and optimizing their contribution to the patient's recovery.

Responsibilities

• Prepare social histories and evaluations of psychiatric patients' psychosocial needs through interviews with patients and families.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to formulate effective treatment and discharge plans.
• Counsel patients and families on issues related to hospitalization and post-discharge challenges.
• Assess the family's role in the patient's current illness and optimize their contribution to recovery.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Social Work.
• State of Maryland LCSW or LCSW-C licensure.
• 2 years of experience working with acute psychiatric patients.
• Demonstrated ability to work with adult behavioral health patients.

Skills

• Effective communication with good audio and visual acuity.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.

Working Conditions

Physical Requirements: Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Visual Acuity: Close visual acuity required for preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, visual inspection, using measurement devices, and/or assembling parts at close distances.

Environmental Conditions: Typical office or administrative work environment with no substantial exposure to adverse conditions.

Reporting Relationship

Reports to and is evaluated by the Director of Behavioral Health. Performs independently within established policy with minimal supervision and consults as needed with the Director and/or Team Manager, especially in cases requiring policy or procedural decisions.
