PSYCHIATRIC SOCIAL WORKER I/STIPEND (NONCOMPETITIVE)
About the role
The County of Los Angeles seeks a professional Social Worker to provide mental health services to clients in need. This role involves interviewing clients, assessing their functioning, developing treatment plans, and providing various forms of therapy.
Responsibilities
- Interviews individuals, families, and significant others to gather comprehensive background information.
- Affirms client's functioning in their environment and develops a treatment plan.
- Conducts therapy sessions individually, in groups, with families, and with significant others.
- Engages in case management to secure necessary resources for clients.
- Assesses and evaluates the behavior of individuals to determine if they require hospitalization.
- Provides crisis intervention and assists clients in managing emotional crises.
- Works with families and significant others to support their acceptance and participation in treatment.
- Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings to evaluate clients' progress and develop treatment plans.
- Contributes to research projects to improve therapeutic methods and understand mental health issues.
Requirements
- A master's degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university, with supervised field work experience in psychiatric social work.
- A valid and active Associate Clinical Social Worker registration issued by the California Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Behavioral Sciences.
- Completion of the required education within six months of employment.
- A valid California Class C Driver License or equivalent transportation method.
Special Requirements
- Physical Class II – Light physical effort, including occasional light lifting and some bending, stooping, or squatting.
- Stipend recipients must provide a copy of their Stipend Contracts or an official letter from their school verifying their stipend status.
