About the role

The Psychiatric Program Director/Nurse Manager oversees a 14-bed senior adult DPU, adhering to the program's philosophy. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating psychiatric nursing care. They also provide managerial support to the hospital Director of Nurses.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the medical and clinical staff in coordinating and managing the medical and psychosocial treatment plan.
  • Provides input in formulating patient care policies, procedures, and nursing care standards for establishing effective treatment plans.
  • Ensures continuity of nursing care based on clinical nursing needs and patients' individual treatment plans.
  • Supervises all nursing activities related to patient care and sets guidelines for accurate reporting and recording of patient symptoms, reactions, and progress.
  • Administers nursing care to patients as needed, maintaining clinical skills and providing clinical support to staff nurses.
  • Attends interdisciplinary team meetings to ensure the delivery of quality patient care.
  • Maintains Quality Assurance and identifies areas for improvement through regular performance improvement measures.
  • Develops patient monitoring measures to accommodate increased referral volumes.
  • Ensures nursing staff complies with high-quality care standards, including treatment plans, initial nursing assessments, skin assessments, daily rounds, fall assessments, nutritional screenings, and discharge planning.

Requirements

Qualified candidates must have an active nursing license in good standing with the State of Mississippi Nursing Board. Demonstrated experience with psych/behavioral health is required, and experience with the geriatric population is strongly preferred.
