Job Summary
The Psychiatrist is responsible for providing high quality care and support to a wide variety of patients. This role always maintains patient satisfaction while treating patients with respect and dignity.
Essential Job Functions
- Evaluates medical and psychosocial conditions.
- Develops and implements treatment plans, including prescription of psychotropic medications.
- Makes sure treatment results are monitored and evaluated.
- Evaluates patients by interviewing patient, family, and other persons, conducting physical examinations; observing behaviors; reviewing medical history and related documents.
- Determines nature and extent of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders and establishes treatment goals and methodologies.
- Treats patients by utilizing psychotherapeutic methods and medications; discusses progress toward goals with patients; provides instructions; monitors effect of medications; and supervises staff provision of services.
- Maintains interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress, and consulting and collaborating with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other health care providers.
- Affirms quality and safe service for patients and staff by enforcing policies, procedures, standards, rules, and legal regulations; participating in utilization reviews; and remaining available for emergency consultations.
- Improves staff competence by providing training and discussions regarding the interrelationship between psychosocial and physiological problems, psychotropic medications, crisis intervention, and related issues.
- Maintains historical records by documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events and writing summaries.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in continuing medical educational opportunities, reading profession organizations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of established and evolving biomedical, clinical, epidemiological and social behavioral sciences and application of this knowledge to patient care.
- Knowledge of Practice-Based Learning and Improvement that involves investigation and evaluation of their own patient care, appraisal and assimilation of scientific evidence and improvements in patient care.
- Skill in using a computer and a variety of software, including Electronics Health Records (EHR) software, Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
- Skill in communicating in a professional manner, both verbally and in writing.
- Skill in managing multiple priorities.
- Ability to convey professional demeanor when engaging with patients, protecting privacy, and confidentiality.
- Ability to enter data into a computer to maintain records.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to act as a good representative of the company.
Education & Experience
- Successful completion of an MSN or DNP who is licensed as an APRN in Nebraska and certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
- Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) License.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Two (2) years of experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) preferred.

- This role operates in a healthcare setting.
- This position requires frequent sitting, standing, and computer work and allows employee to vary physical position or activity for comfort.
- Must be able to: Stand 30% or longer of an 8-hour workday.
- Sit 45% of an 8-hour workday.
- Walk 25% of an 8-hour workday.
- Requires ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally.
- Requires employee to: bend, squat, kneel and reach above shoulder level occasionally and twist occasionally.
- Requires repetitive use of hands for: simple grasping, fine manipulation, computer use.
- Requires all sensory skills (speech, vision, smell, touch, and hearing) corrected to near normal range.
