Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) - Part-Time

About the role

As a key member of the Northpoint team, the Psychiatric Advanced Practice Provider will provide consultation, medical, and administrative direction to subordinate medical and support staff in various treatment settings (inpatient and outpatient). This role involves direct patient care, including diagnostic assessment, preventative and educational services, and medication evaluation and management, in accordance with best care practices, industry standards, organizational guidelines, and state and federal laws. The provider will collaborate with a multidisciplinary treatment team to deliver the best possible care and engage in extensive internal and external communication with staff, leadership, physicians, vendors, and other professional colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced medical and psychiatric services consistent with the ethical guidelines of the profession and the policies and procedures of Northpoint
• Conduct health assessments, psychiatric evaluations, and medical exams of patients with known or foreseen health problems
• Perform medication evaluation, initiation, and short-term management of prescribed medications
• Order and interpret lab tests for patients prior to and/or during prescription management
• Consult with physicians and providers regarding ongoing medical care, maintenance, and disease prevention
• Engage in case management and patient education
• Interact routinely with patients, observe behaviors, and communicate significant observations to the multidisciplinary team
• Document information regarding patient care and behavior as required in policies and procedures
• Participate in patient treatment planning and implementation under the direction of the Medical Director
• Utilize de-escalation skills when exposed to volatile patients to maintain safety for the patient and others
• Consult with the multidisciplinary treatment team in the development of treatment plans and discharge planning
• Comply with all laws, regulations, and scope of licensure
• Monitor patients on an ongoing basis to continually assess needs and facilitate medical treatment and interventions
• Document medical assessment, diagnosis, progress notes, roundings, and other treatment planning items in a timely manner
• Maintain professional boundaries with patients at all times
• Oversee and participate in the quality assurance and compliance activities of the facility
• Provide medical updates to utilization review and representatives of managed care to coordinate reimbursement of treatment services
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures
• Maintain confidentiality in accordance with established policies and standards of care
• Perform other medically appropriate services and special projects as assigned

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Nursing with specialty from an accredited program
• Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in the state where services are rendered, with prescriptive privileges, at hire and for the entire duration of employment
• Valid DEA Controlled Substance Registration Certificate
• Valid National Provider Identification (NPI) number
• Current and nationally accredited CPR/First Aid/AED certification
• Knowledge of computer and electronic medical records systems (KIPU)
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience required; preferably with one (1) year inpatient residential experience
• Ability to work with a diverse population and demonstrate interpersonal skills required for treating patients in the assigned specialty
• Demonstrated ability to hold strong personal boundaries and build rapport with patients
• Must understand and adhere to the ethical standards of the respective licensure governing board

$70–95/hour + shift differential
