Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

About the role

As a key member of the Northpoint team, the Psychiatric Advanced Practice Provider will provide consultation, medical, and administrative direction to subordinate medical and support staff in inpatient and outpatient settings. This role involves direct patient care, including diagnostic assessment, preventative and educational services, and medication evaluation and management, in accordance with best practices, industry standards, and state and federal laws. The provider will collaborate with a multidisciplinary treatment team to deliver optimal care and engage in extensive internal and external communication.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced medical and psychiatric services consistent with professional ethical guidelines and Northpoint policies and procedures.
• Conduct health assessments, psychiatric evaluations, and medical exams of patients with known or foreseen health problems.
• Perform medication evaluation, initiation, and short-term management of prescribed medications.
• Order and interpret lab tests for patients prior to and/or during prescription management.
• Consult with physicians and providers regarding ongoing medical care, maintenance, and disease prevention.
• Engage in case management and patient education.
• Interact routinely with patients, observe behaviors, and communicate significant observations to the multidisciplinary team.
• Document patient care and behavior as required by policies and procedures.
• Participate in patient treatment planning and implementation under the direction of the Medical Director.
• Utilize de-escalation skills when exposed to volatile patients to maintain safety.
• Consult with the multidisciplinary treatment team in developing treatment and discharge plans.
• Comply with all laws, regulations, and scope of licensure.
• Monitor patients on an ongoing basis to assess needs and facilitate medical treatment and interventions.
• Document medical assessments, diagnoses, progress notes, and treatment planning items in a timely manner.
• Maintain professional boundaries with patients at all times.
• Oversee and participate in quality assurance and compliance activities of the facility.
• Provide medical updates to utilization review and managed care representatives to coordinate reimbursement.
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures, maintaining confidentiality in accordance with established standards.
• Perform other medically appropriate services and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Nursing with a specialty from an accredited program.
• Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in the state where services are rendered, with prescriptive privileges.
• Valid DEA Controlled Substance Registration Certificate.
• Valid National Provider Identification (NPI) number.
• Current and nationally accredited CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
• Knowledge of computer and electronic medical records systems (KIPU).
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience required; preferably with one (1) year of inpatient residential experience.
• Ability to work with a diverse population and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain strong personal boundaries and build rapport with patients.
• Understanding and adherence to the ethical standards of the respective licensure governing board.

Schedule

Sunday-Wednesday or Sunday-Thursday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

Pay

$70 - $95 per hour, plus shift differential.
