Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough initial psychiatric evaluations and ongoing assessments
  • Mentally status examinations, and risk assessments
  • Formulate accurate diagnoses using DSM-5-TR criteria
  • Affirmative for co-occurring medical and substance use conditions
  • Develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans
  • Prescribe, manage, and monitor psychotropic medications
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests and diagnostic studies
  • Adjust treatment plans based on clinical response and best practices
  • Provide culturally sensitive psychotherapy (e.g., CBT, DBT, supportive therapy)
  • Deliver psychoeducation to patients and families
  • Provide crisis intervention and stabilization when necessary
  • Work collaboratively with psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, and interdisciplinary care teams
  • Participate in case conferences and clinical meetings
  • Cook up referrals and connect individuals with appropriate community resources
  • Maintain accurate and timely EMR documentation
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, billing requirements, and regulatory standards
  • Adhere to ethical and professional nursing standards
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives
  • Maintain required continuing education and professional certifications
  • Stay current with psychiatric, behavioral health, and pharmacological advancements

Qualifications

  • Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program
  • Fluent in both Spanish and English (required)
  • Licensure & Certification: Active RN and APRN licenses in the State of New Jersey, Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), Active DEA registration with prescriptive authority
  • Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of post-licensure PMHNP experience preferred, Experience working in outpatient behavioral health settings with diverse populations, Experience providing telehealth services preferred
