Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

About the role

We are seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join our growing mental health agency in Virginia Beach, VA. As a pioneer in care coordination, we provide comprehensive services and a supportive environment for our team.

Responsibilities

• Able to work with all ages (must have experience working with children)
• Treats most diagnosis
• Provides outpatient and residential care to patients showing a change or decline in mental status, chronic or urgent medical conditions
• Works independently with other members of the medical team, with entitlements to specific clinical privileges approved by the clinic’s Medical Executive Board
• Participates in an interdisciplinary team that provides primary care to employees and patients
• Takes patients’ histories and physicals, risk factor assessments, orders therapeutic and diagnostic tests; attends to consultations and appointments
• Prescribes medications following the clinic’s policy, formulary, and relevant regulations of the State
• Consults with physicians on cases beyond the scope of qualification of PMHNP
• Documents all relevant patient data in medical records and case presentations
• Formulates, executes, and reviews healthcare education delivered to patients and families for disease prevention
• Ensures smooth communication with other health professionals for effective delivery of clinic services to patients
• Provides consultation to the clinic’s nursing and medical staff for improving their work performance, enhancing overall quality service delivery
• Communicates clearly with all stakeholders, including patients, families, clinic staff, and other healthcare professionals
• Proficient in the English language, both in writing and speaking
• Maintains graduate professional nurse and nurse practitioner registration in a state, which must be unrestricted, current, complete, and active
• Obtains Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
• Has a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing followed by a master’s degree in Psychiatric or Mental Health Nursing from a state-approved and accredited school for professional nursing training
• Understands the impact of society on mental health and possesses strong problem-solving, monitoring, and examination skills
• Is compassionate, sensitive, and possesses strong reasoning and thinking skills
• Has strong computer skills, including working with word processing and data entry applications, as well as medical software applications

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Psychiatric or Mental Health Nursing
• Graduate professional nurse and nurse practitioner registration in a state, unrestricted, current, complete, and active
• Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
• Experience working with children
• Entitlement to specific clinical privileges approved by the clinic’s Medical Executive Board
• Comprehensive knowledge of mental health and its societal impacts
• Strong problem-solving, monitoring, and examination skills
• Clear communication skills
• Strong computer skills

Pay

• Up to $130,000.00 per year + Bonus
