About the role

Central City Concern's Old Town Recovery Center offers an opportunity to join an intensive case management team focused on transforming lives through comprehensive, trauma-informed care for individuals with serious mental illness, substance use disorders, homelessness, and complex medical needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, medication management, and ongoing treatment
  • Prescribe buprenorphine, Vivitrol, Naltrexone, Acamprosate, and other medications supporting recovery
  • Deliver brief psychotherapy and motivational interviewing interventions
  • Respond to psychiatric crises and provide suicide risk assessment and intervention
  • Partner closely with behavioral health, primary care, and substance use treatment teams
  • Help shape individualized treatment plans for some of Portland's most vulnerable community members

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • Master’s degree in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing from State Board of Nursing approved schools of nursing
  • Current license to practice nursing in Oregon and certified as a PMHNP by the Oregon State Board of Nursing and National certification
  • Full prescriptive powers in Oregon with a DEA number
  • Priviledging requirements as required by FTCA
  • Current BLS certification required prior to start
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • Must meet applicable training requirements for Buprenorphine prescribing
  • Must generally have the ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, reach, pull and lift heavy objects, and climb stairs with reasonable or no accommodation
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen, TB test, and background check
  • Must be able to work within an integrated, multidisciplinary setting
  • Adhere to agency’s non-discrimination policies
  • Ability to adhere to Central City Concern’s drug-free workplace

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to consider the impacts and outcomes for underserved communities during decision-making process
  • Knowledge, evaluation and treatment planning for clients with substance use disorders, including both pharmacotherapies and psychotherapies
  • Knowledge of evaluation plans and treatment of clients with a variety of psychiatric disorders, with psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic interventions
  • Ability to consider impacts of oppression, structural racism, and individual bias on client outcomes

  • Ability to practice independently and seek consultation when appropriate
  • Ability to delegate patient care, as needed, and if appropriate

  • Sufficient manual dexterity and physical ability to perform assigned tasks
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and necessary paperwork
  • Ability to remain calm and composed when dealing with clients who are in crisis
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of patient information
  • Excellent communication skills including diplomacy, tact, effective “bedside manner”
