About the Department
Alfred Mental & Addiction Health is responsible for services focusing on people with severe mental illness in the Inner South Eastern area of Melbourne. The department comprises five programs:
- Acute Program (Adult Psychiatric Inpatient Units)
- Emergency and Consultation Liaison Psychiatry (Triage, CATT, Emergency Dept, and CL)
- Community Psychiatry
- Child and Youth Services
- Aged Mental Health (Inpatient and Community)
Teams are located at Alfred Hospital (Commercial Road, Prahran), 549 St. Kilda Road, 607 St Kilda Road, Alma Road CCU in St. Kilda, PARC at Nicholson Street Prahran, Aged Mental Health service at Caulfield Hospital, and the Child & Youth Service in Moorabbin, with headspace services in various Victorian locations. The department also partners with local non-government and social support agencies.
About the Role
This position is based at Alfred Mental & Addiction Health within the Ground Floor Inpatient Unit. It is available to an experienced and patient-centered Enrolled Nurse to work in the acute adult inpatient unit. Responsibilities include:
- Applying comprehensive knowledge of the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation
- Conducting risk assessments, mental state assessments, and care planning
- Demonstrating strong interpersonal skills to effectively partner with patients in their recovery
- Providing direct patient care under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse while retaining accountability for delegated functions
The Alfred Adult Mental Health Inpatient Unit offers study days, clinical supervision, and a supportive team environment. A clinical educator is available to help develop mental health nursing knowledge and skills. The role requires a high performer who is customer-focused, a team player, and motivated. A rotating shift work roster is involved.
Requirements
- Current registration with AHPRA in Enrolled Nursing and a valid practicing certificate
- Medication administration endorsement (essential)
- PEN Level 2 applies to Enrolled Nurses who meet one of the following:
- At least 2 years’ experience and holds either an NMBA-approved qualification in administration of medicines or a post-registration qualification in mental health nursing
- Undertakes PEN 2 duties as part of their role within their scope of practice
- Is in a Community Training Position of up to 12 months (as defined)
