Day shift: 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., 0.75 FTE (30 hours/week). Schedule: every Saturday & Sunday, and every other Friday. Full-time benefits eligible. Flat-rate premium weekend pay of $50.80/hour.

About the role

The Charge Nurse plans, directs, and evaluates overall patient care and functions in a particular area during an assigned shift. Serves as a role model to positively influence culture and work environment. Practices professional nursing and promotes patient advocacy in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the activities of a particular shift and directs, organizes, and assigns work to the employees.
  • Ensures adequate supplies, equipment, and utilization of staff.
  • Serves as an expert EPIC Super User.
  • Assesses, monitors, and supports employees throughout the shift.
  • Facilitates direct patient care through coaching, delegation, and service recovery.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed.
  • Engages in the “workplace community” by staying aware of changes, participating in data collection or auditing, understanding Quality Improvement, and representing staff at relevant meetings; reports important information and updates back to staff.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance.
  • Institutes emergency responses as appropriate.
  • Maintains quality and safety as a priority.
  • Specifies the critical resources required to accomplish the team's objectives.
  • Makes appropriate staffing decisions with understanding and consideration of workload targets and budget impact.

Requirements

  • BSN, required.
  • Current Ohio Nursing License, required.
  • BLS certification, required.
  • 2 years of nursing experience, preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally: Biohazard waste, climb stairs/ladder, cold temperatures, electricity, fumes/gases/vapors, hot temperatures, lifting/carrying 61-100 lbs, loud noises, machinery, power tools, pushing/pulling 100 lbs or greater with assistance, reaching above shoulder, working at heights, working outdoors.
  • Frequently: Bend/twist, blood and/or bodily fluids, chemicals/medications, communicable diseases and/or pathogens, flexing/extending of neck, hand use (grasping, gripping, turning), lifting/carrying 0-10 lbs, lifting/carrying 11-20 lbs, patient equipment, pushing/pulling 0-25 lbs, pushing/pulling 26-40 lbs, sitting, squat/kneel, standing, walking.
  • Continuously: Audible speech, color vision, computer skills, decision making, depth perception, hearing acuity, interpreting data, peripheral vision, problem solving, repetitive hand/arm use, seeing (far/near).
